I follow a few graffiti artists on Instagram.
There’s one - ‘odd dog meteorology’ - I’ve followed for about a year. The work is - more of less - a stylized image of a dog.
The person(s) behind Odd Dog obfuscate their identity. I get it. So I don’t know much (or anything) about them or their motivations.
(not really)
On Instagram all I see is the image, likes, and the location.
(which are in various states across the US)
It’s funny…
As deep as the potential for understanding and artwork may go, as far as it may take us, in this case I don’t analyze.
I don’t really ‘think’ about it.
Not really.
There’s just some/thing about this dog I like…
And I’m fine with that.
Today.
(everything is a work in progress)
Though, I must admit, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that there actually is something odd about this Dog.
Anyway…
I thought the work I saw posted would be forever confined to the screen. Never to be seen in real-life.
(and I was fine with that)
I had no intention of seeking it out. No expectations that this would be anything more than something I saw (and enjoyed) on the swirling shit-show that is Instagram.
I was fine to leave it confined.
(and I was fine with that, too)
Then last Friday…
I was staying with a friend.
And less than a block from his house I found this…
The Odd Dog!
I wasn’t sure at first.
I thought no way.
But sure enough…
And I thought to myself, the world can seem so big at times. The shit-show can be such a shit-show. Everything fake. (or at least not real)
But in an instant, you find yourself in a Place, where everything can become so small. Intimate. Real.
Mythology touches reality.
(a great feeling if you’ve ever had it)
And it’s people like this - doing things like this - that help make it happen.
It’s so silly.
(these little touches)
And I love it.

(all that from a trashcan)
If you want to follow Odd Dog yourself check this link
Or, if you’re more in the mood for glow in the dark dinosaurs stalking breweries and bike paths (and who could blame you?) check this
(just do both)
One more thing - I’ve recently posted some of my graffiti photography from Uruguay on the Aretaic website
Until next Tuesday.
Breadcrumbs…
Not a map.
